You control the design, content, and execution of the media from concept to printing or digital sharing. Any potential revenue brought in by your media product is wholly yours.

1. What does it mean to self-publish?

Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing and typesetting software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers, presentations, books and ebooks.

Adobe Indesign is only available for desktop use, no mobile version is available. This product is designed using the most current version of Adobe Indesign CC 2020. It is compatible with older versions of Adobe Indesign if you use the .imdl file version in the product download.

If you do not already have an Adobe CC subscription to Indesign, you can sign up here. Adobe Indesign alone costs $20-30 per month. You can also download a free trial version of the program.

You will need any version of Adobe Indesign as well as Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded for free here.

After Purchase FAQ

Once you place your order, you’ll receive 2 e-mails: an order confirmation and a second email with the zipped starter kit that includes: the font installation PDF, instructions for how to access the different tutorial videos, the Indesign template file, and a digital copy of the Local Milk E-Cookbook.

If you received the confirmation email, but not the emails with the downloads, please be patient. It can take up to 20-30 minutes. If you still haven’t received it, it means the shop can’t process your payment right away. Please check with your bank & email us at hello@localmilkblog.com

If you haven’t got the confirmation email, it means you must have misspelled your email address. Please email us at hello@localmilkblog.com with a full name & email you want to use & we will look up your order and send the files to the correct address.

1. Where is my starter kit?

For desktop presets simply double click the .zip file to unzip it. If using the fonts the template was created with, click on the DO FIRST - Font Install Guide PDF to click on and download the free fonts. If using your own fonts, double click the Indesign file compatible with your version of Indesign, and open the Cookbook Template Instructions PDF to access the tutorial videos.

2. How do I open the files?

No! In the tutorial videos you will learn how to add and remove pages from your template, so you can have as few or as many recipes and photo pages as you want!

6. Can I only have 25 recipes?

Go for it! In the tutorial videos you will learn how to order copies of your cookbook from MagCloud, which we use and recommend. If you want to print elsewhere, you will have everything you need to do so, so long as you check with the company's file setup specifications and prepare your files accordingly.

7. What if I want to use a different company to print my cookbook?

This is not a one-time use product. When you purchase this template, you receive a working Indesign file. This means you can edit and save or print your publication as many times as you want, as often as you want. This template is set up as a beautiful cookbook that is 100% ready for you to drop your recipes and photos into. If you choose to reformat the document for another purpose, that's up to you! We are working to create other editions of the self-publish series that are designed specifically for other types of publications. Stay tuned!
